The Milan Swimming and Diving Team traveled to Holland for the D3 Invitational on Saturday. We had a very good day, filled with lots of best times and made our first State Cut for the season. As we continue to develop, the boys swam some new races for some of them and excelled. We have the largest team we have had in years, and lots of new athletes. The meet allowed us to try some new combinations and new events. The C medley of Ethan Rice, Hank Bobicz, Owen Stripp, and Dylan Penzien had a great swim and beat their seeded time. The B relay of Ryan Johnson, Caleb Furlong, Cameron Garcia and Koleton Tolfree swam well and took 21st. The A relay of Alec Markham, Tadas Zukovskis, Jameson McShane and Dylan Nichols swam very well, and claimed 12th in a season best for us. The 200 free saw Stevie Garcia have a solid swim to take 42nd, Ian Satterley, Owen Stripp, and Ryan Johnson all had lifetime best times to finish in 36th, 34th and 30th. In the 200 IM, Jameson McShane had a fantastic swim to score points as he finished 14th in the event. For the 50 Free, Joe Bilyk had a lifetime best, Landon brice broke the 30 second barrier, Hank Bobicz had a lifetime best and Dylan Nichols had a nice swim to finish in 23rd, Caleb Furlong was our sole Dive entry and battled a great field to take 14th on the day and scored points for the Big Reds. Tadas Zukovskis made the State Cut in the 100 Butterfly and brought home a medal with his 8th place showing. McShane had a nice swim in the event as well and finished in 21st. For the 100 Free, Satterley finished in 37th, Tolfree went a season best to take 32nd, Cameron Garcia went a lifetime best to take 25th, and Markham swam very well and finished in 20th. Dylan Penzien swam his first 500 ever and did very well, finishing in 30th. The 200 Free Relay saw lots of great splits, as the C relay of Rice, Bilyk, Penzien and Stevie Gracia all went great times. The B relay of Brice, Furlong, Stripp and Satterley finished in 20th, and the A relay of Tolfree,Nichols, Cam Garcia and Markham finished in 11th to score points. The 100 Back was a good event for us, as Rice swam the event for the first time and did very well, Stripp and Johnson went lifetime best swims and Zukovskis made a MISCA cut and finished in 9th, just a touch off the State Cut time. For the 100 Breast, Bobicz was 38th, Furlong crushed his seed time and took 31st, while Cameron Garcia also had a lifetime best to finish in 25th. The meet ended with the 400 Free Relay. Joe Bilyk, Stevie Garcia, Ethan Rice and Dylan Penzien had great swims. The B relay of Brice, Johnson, Satterley, and Tolfree took 21st, and the A relay of Zukovskis, Nichols, McShane and Markham finished in 13th.. We are developing and getting better with each meet. The boys are putting in the work, and we have no question that will continue.
