The Milan Girls Swimming and Diving Team traveled to Battle Creek Saturday for the Spartan Relay meet at Battle Creek Lakeview High School. We had a great and fun start as we started to shake the rust off and swim some fun relays. In the 11 team field we took 7th against mostly Division 1 and Division 2 teams. 1. GR Forest Hills Central 410 2. Loy Norrix 357 3. Harper Creek High School 257 4. St. Joseph High School 254 5. Midland H. H. Dow High School 244 6. Bridgman High School 219 7. Milan High School 218 8. Battle Creek Lakeview 214 9. Portage Central High School 195 10. Sturgis High School 110 The meet started with the Breastroke relay, and the B team of Zoe Devine, Delany Didyk, Emma Brown and Ashtyn Bergstrom took 14th, while the A team of Ginny Heikka, Kelsie Gillay, Tori Kimberly and Mary Kate Wayne brought home a medal with their 3rd place finish. The 400 Free Relay B group was Heikka, Emma Brown, Peyton Bergstrom, and Bri Pumfrey, they took 18th, and the A relay of Astyn Bergstrom, Avery Hovatter, Kenleigh Vandergrift, and Lila McKenna claimed 7th. The 400 IM relay was another medal for Milan, as Sara Mitchell, Mckenna, Evelyn Gill and Afton Presley took 3rd. The 200 Fly relay of Presley, Hovatter, Mitchell and Wayne took 5th in a great swim. The 800 Free relay of Hovatter, Kimberly, McKenna and Gill took 6th The 200 Medley B team took 17th and was composed of Devine, Heikka, Pumfrey and Vandergrift, while the A team of Presely, Wayne, Mitchell and Gillay took 2nd and achieved our first State Cut of the year!! The 200 Free Relay finished up the meet for us, as the B team of Didyk, Ashtyn Bergstrom,Pumfrey and Emma Brown took 14th, with the A team of Vandergrift, Gillay, Kimberly and Gill taking 4th The meet is always a fun meet, as we get to swim teams we do not see much, and we get the opportunity to swim some very fast competition. We will start the dual meet part of our schedule this week, as we travel to Allen Park on Tuesday and host Ypsilanti Lincoln and Greenhills on Thursday.
